Please Help Tuggers and Jones PDF Print E-mail

Tuggers and JonesTuggers and Jones are breaking my heart more every day. These two boys were surrendered by owner on 2-4-09. They are both 10 years old and are absolutely wearing away. Tugger has lost so much weight since being here and they both keep getting sick over and over again. They need to get out of here as soon as possible. We are sending out an urgent plea for any family willing to give these sweet kitties a forever home. They are both declawed and neutered and are large kitties. Tugger is the Domestic Long Hair Tabby cat and Jones is Domestic Shorthair black cat. They each weigh around 10 pounds now and I am sure that they weighed much more when they came into our shelter.

They were with their previous owner since they were tiny kittens. Ten years later, they find themselves are living in a cage at the shelter. I can’t stand looking at them every day because they truly break my heart. One of you out there has got to help these two homeless pets find a place to live out the rest of their days.

Esmerelda, A one eyed kitty cat who needs your help. PDF Print E-mail

Our miracle kitty, Esmerelda posing with some Germ-X, an animal shelter staple.
Esmerelda came in yesterday morning when someone saw her get hit by a car. The concerned citizen swooped in like Esmerelda's guardian angel and brought her directly to our shelter. She weighs about 3 pounds and is missing her right eye. Despite her rough edges and hard path into our care, she is an absolute LOVE of a kitty. She likes to give smooches to anyone willing to take the time to show her some affection.
She is showing no ill affects, eye excluded, from the car accident and is looking for her forever home. If you have the room in your home and the love in your heart, please consider adopting Esmerelda. It's a commitment that you will not regret!

The Feral Cat Project PDF Print E-mail
Community Outreach - Take Action for Animals!

I am proud to announce that HCASF is currently in the process of working with the City of Weirton and Hancock County Officials to initiate a program to control the feral or wild cat population around Weirton and throughout Hancock County. After Mayor Harris brought the issue to the spotlight in October, we have been working to devise a humane and sustainable solution to the “alley cats” around some local businesses. This project is truly a community project because our Feral Cat Project’s success hinges greatly on your willingness to help us prevent any harm from coming to these animals.

A select group of concerned citizens have helped us to lay the groundwork for this very important project. Their efforts to trap the feral felines for sterilization, rehabilitation and either re-homing or release have provided us with invaluable information on these felines. The sample of felines which have been taken into foster care have ALL been negative for Rabies, Feline Leukemia and FIV. This gives us high hopes that communicable diseases are not present in any of the cat colonies.

Our goal is to seek funding and foster homes to support the trap, spay, rehab and re-homing or release of these animals. They will all be assessed as to whether they can be rehabilitated and re-homed or if they will need to be released back into the wild after they come into our care. Because the ultimate goal of this program is to place these animals into loving homes, the best place to do the rehabilitation is in a home environment.

What can I do to help?
