Statement of Purpose
The Hancock County Animal Shelter is dedicated to the welfare of all animals in our community. We are responsible for:
1. The sheltering of unwanted, abandoned, stray or impounded animals
2. The education of the public concerning the proper care of animals and fostering responsible ownership.
3. The responsible placement of adoptable animals in our care
4. The humane disposition of unwanted, unadoptable, sick or injured animals.
The Hancock County Animal Shelter has a moral, ethical and legal obligation to shelter animals in such a way to unsure the public safety of all species and to show respect for the dignity and worth of all creatures.
Goals of the Hancock County Animal Shelter
1. To teach responsible pet ownership to adopting families and pet owners throughout the community.
2. To improve conditions for animals in the community
3. To inform the public about required animal immunizations
4. To reduce uncontrolled animal breeding
5. To safeguard and return stray and lost animals to their owners.
6. To place adoptable pets into responsible, loving homes.
7. To shelter animals in such a way as to minimize stress on the animals , protect them from the elements, and provide a place of safety, security and comfort for them.
8. To make our facility a place that is attractive and convenient to the community.
